- Description: IPMS Santa Rosa meeting, October 8, 2009
News and announcements:
We continue to plug National IPMS membership. This is a mere $25.00 for adults 18 years or older or $12.00 a year for juniors. This includes 6 issues of the IPMS USA Journal, which has become one of the best model magazines out there. Your membership helps to provide insurance for all IPMS sanctioned events. Without this we would not be able to hold our Expo every year. The special new membership incentive is still being offered. If you signup a new member (one that has not been a member for 4 years) you will receive a free membership for 1 year.
We currently have approximately 20 IPMS USA members, which is great. If you are one of these, please double check the address label on the last Journal you received. It shows your membership expiration date. We are currently in the process of renewing our club's IPMS Charter and every national membership counts. Please make sure that yours is current.
Regarding our club's Charter, we are now required to report to the club every year on our financial status. Our treasurer Greg Reynolds will present a report this evening.
(We are doing fine. The Expo 2010 is fully funded and we will end the year with a good surplus. This is due to the generosity of our members donating and buying at our annual auction and our continuing support of members through their dues. And careful budgeting by your board. Anyone who would like more information, please contact our treasurer: Greg Reynolds.)
After surveying the membership and receiving a better than 2/1 in favor a meeting night change from Thursdays to Fridays the board voted unanimously at the last board meeting to implement the change effective as of the March 12, 2010 meeting. We will try the meeting night change for a year and reevaluate it then.
Monthly Newsletter: There has not been an updated newsletter posted. Our editor has not had the time to
get it put together. Please be patient.
Hobzob: We now have 23 people signed up with 22 of them with work benches set up. You will find the monthly club meetings on the club page under the Groups tab complete with photos. The URL is www.hobzob.com. Please sign up if you have not already.
This month's demo was presented by John Boes, who showed us the basics of pin washing. John used artists oils (Windson & Newton) thinned in Turpenoid.
This month's Show & Tell Theme is "Paint it Black". October brings us All Hallows Eve and a reminder that scary things lurk in the night, just beyond the edge of our feeble senses. Black things, deadly things, horrible things lurking in the darkness stalk the model table this month: night fighters, stealth planes, top secret projects, X-15s, ninjas, monsters, and everything that shuns the light.
This month's theme winner was Dennis Dow's son.
