What I am thankful for...

By HobbyTownRob

I am EXTREMELY thankful to the fast-acting staff at Shoney's, the two patrons who assisted, the one who grabbed the ambulance staff who had just left the restaurant and were still in the parking lot. I now know what the Heimlich feels like, and have a bruised esophagus and ribs.

T-Scale Model Railroading

By HobbyTownRob

A friend of mine told me about a model railroad system that's smaller than Z-Scale! T-Scale. Track rails are 3mm apart.
Stuff is TINY!

Here's a neat stop-action video of a layout being built.

Slash Updated Info

By HobbyTownRob

I'm not a big fan of printed on graphics, but thankfully, Traxxas has put some of the graphics on as vinyl decals. Easily removed and replaced.
I got a chance to do a few things to the Slash today. Not really a lot other than new numbers and some photos.
No disrespect to the original sponsor, but I don't run the number 1 on anything. I consider it bad luck.
I was able to remove the door numbers and replaced them with the NASCAR style numbers from McAllister Racing. I generally run using #2 (as close to 1 as I dare), 4, or 13. I chose 13 for the Slash since the numbers look 'right' for their position on the door. I removed the 'shock' decals from the rear of the truck as well as the sponsor stickers on the rear fenders.
These will get replaced with Hobby Town stickers as soon as I can get them.

I still haven't put the first battery pack into the tray nor even put batteries in the transmitter. It's kind of fun waiting for that first throttling up and twisting of the wheel. I'm hoping to get a shot of it's first jump tomorrow.

I've added some more pics with the new number package.

Got my Slash today! Wheee!

By HobbyTownRob

This is a fun little car based on Traxxas' successful Rustler and Stampede platforms. Body makes it seem more like 1/5 or thereabouts (I could be wrong) but it's not really 1/10.

Fully ball-bearinged, has a 12 turn sealed can 540 style motor, XL-5 waterproof speed control, waterproof servo, and waterproof receiver box. I would think with the exception of the exposed motor, you could almost run this thing in pool! ;D

I'm itching to start racing this thing real soon. We're organizing some racing at Hobby Town in Knoxville real soon. Should be a hoot! (I'm a bit rusty so this will definitely prove it..)

I dig the color scheme but I'm disappointed the number and sponsor graphics are printed on instead of easily removed decals... Oh well.

Here's some pics of this thing straight out of the box...

The Slash will be in my garage today!

By HobbyTownRob

I'm eagerly awaiting getting to work today because I'm picking up my new Traxxas Slash. I mulled over between the 1/16 and the 1/10 and have decided to go with the 1/10.
Several reasons for the decisions and one of them is the sheer size of this car! Sure, it's 'technically' 1/10 but if you look at the body, I'd say it's probably more like 1/5 or so. Reason I chose the larger one is, well, let's face it, I'm no spring chicken and the eyesight ain't what it used to be and the Slash is big enough for me to see on the backstretch.
Haven't decided which Slash to get, but I've got some old school tuning tips I'm planning on using on it to get it ready for the Parking Lot Racing we're going to be doing at Hobby Town Knoxville.

Hot day in Knoxville

By HobbyTownRob

Temp is expected to reach mid 90s. While for some folks, that's not much. For East Tennessee, it's unfavorable.
We've even been given an 'Ozone Action' statement (whatever that means).
So, I'm working on our O - HO - N test track module. It'll have all three scales and two powerpacks so we can test locomotives for customers.
So, it's still a productive day.

Describing HobZob to newbies...

By HobbyTownRob

So, the other day I was talking to a potential hobzob user and he asked me how to best describe hobzob.

After careful consideration, I came up with the following.

HobZob is a Social Networking site that is like other online forums without the attitude and FaceBook without all the annoying apps.

So far, I've had quite a few friends and customers sign up.

New Body - HPI Hobby Town Monte Carlo

By HobbyTownRob

This is a body that Angela supplied for us to use. It was painted by a former employee and it looks sharp, sharp, sharp! It's a pale pearl over red, white, and blue! The custom Hobby Town decals and McAllister Numbers set this thing off just right!
It's shown here displayed on and HPI E-10 but will probably end up on an HPI Sprint 2.
Anyone want to donate an oval chassis? :D

I give this body 5 out of 5 BearPaws.

He served in the Air Force for 33 years. He enjoyed walking the neighborhoods and city of Knoxville, traveling, singing, music, reading for the blind, delivering meals on wheels (with treats for the pets), and square dancing.

A small memorial service was held at Holston Health and Rehab Center on June 23rd. The family would like to thank the caring and friendly staff of Holston.

Col Earl J Barrows, 1920 - 2009

By HobbyTownRob

June 20, 2009, my father in law passed away while en route to the ER from the nursing home.

His passing was quick and there was no distress.

He lived a full accomplished life.

I have got to be stupid...

I've been reading other people's blobs and wondering where the heck I can post my blog.

Then, I find this little, tiny black button. Heh.

Okay. Prepare for blogginess.
