Model Building for Beginners: Still looking for motivation

By katlynnd

I appreciate all the comments I received about finding the motivation to work on your model. I haven't had the time or the ability to search through other people's work for inspiration (as suggested), due to my laptop battery completely biting the dust, so my computer doesn't last very long these days, but I'm hoping those pictures will give me the motivation to get some work done on my own model.

I'm also left wondering: with what time do you get to work on your models? I find that even though I have my evenings free, I often end up running a million errands or am just flat out too tired to work on anything that requires any amount of accuracy. So when do you work on your models? Do you usually hammer out a build in a few weeks, or is one model a longer process than I expected it to be?

I always appreciate and enjoy the feedback, thanks for reading!

I feel the same way, Just to busy, but I just take longer to finish. I will start a model and just do a piece or 2 a night, sometimes I only do a piece or 2 a week. Of course it mostly at night after the kids are in bed (by kid I mean my wife also) lol I like Bfalcons said "I model when the mood strikes me, do as much as I feel comfortable doing at the time , and don't set a deadline or minimum to meet. Like I said, it's a hobby, not a competition! There is no deadline!" I like that well spoken

I find that between work, daily chores and flying RC, I just sometimes don't have the time to model. Our club has one modeler who actually sets up and builds kits like a production line ( same paint colors, same paint scheme, etc) He enjoys doing it that way and it works for him. I think if you have to force it, it's no longer enjoyable and as such, no longer a hobby. I model when the mood strikes me, do as much as I feel comfortable doing at the time , and don't set a deadline or minimum to meet. Like I said, it's a hobby, not a competition! There is no deadline!

I get inspiration from TV, Idol, or dance, of Bachelor. It's enough to make me go to the model bench. Also I get inspired by other modelers, check to see if there is a model club nearby, go to a meeting.
