About hobbytowncarlton’s Workbench
About me and my passion for RC
I have been in RC modeling for 50 years. I built my first RC model ship way back in the early 60's. It had a single channel Galloping Ghost transmitter and vacuum-tube type receiver system for those of you who may go back that far.. Constructed many ship models, all RC, over the years, all large, and all military types. Built my first RC plane around 1985, a Goldberg Eagle 63 high-wing trainer. In the recent past, I have built and flown, Giant Scale (85" or larger) PiperCubs, P-51 Mustangs, F4U Corsairs, P-47 Thunderbolts, OV-10, and many others. I built and flew one of the first large fiberglas RC helicopters available in the 60's, a Schluter Gazelle. I am currently a Charter Founding Member of the Colonial Virginia Aeromodelers (CVA) and served as club president for 12 years.
We host both AMA and IMAA flying events in the Williamsburg, Virginia area. Check it out at http://cvarc.homestead.com/
I was heavy into the Slot Car racing revolution during the 60's and 70's and now manage the Tueday Night 1/32nd slot-racing activities at Hobbytown Newport News. Come in from 6 to 8PM every Tuesday night and join in the fun.
I first got into RC Car racing when the first Associated RC-10's came out, but with no structured racing available, my interest gradually faded. I am racing again at Hobbytown Newport News in the"Legends" and "Late Model" electric RC car racing events held on Sundays from noon to 4PM in the parking lot if front of the NN store.. Of course, I still build WW2 ship models.
I am now constructing a 19' - 8" 'Manned" Model of the battleship "Bismarck".
Try modeling, "Anything"! You never know where it might lead..
